Gil Scott-Heron - I'm new here

Gil Scott-Heron est une légende absolue de la musique soul, un poète, musicien, "the godfather of the protest soul" depuis plus de 40 ans. On se souvient de The Bottle, The Revolution will not be televised, Winter in America, entre autres magnifiques chansons, la liste est longue.

Et il revient de loin, de très loin, Gil Scott-Heron, avec un très bel album sorti début 2010, court et surprenant, "I’m new here", que je ne découvre que maintenant et qui me bouleverse.

Amaigri, vieilli, la voix rocailleuse, une musique épurée, synthés lunaires et des textes qui me font regretter de ne pas assez bien comprendre l’anglais…

"Un poignant face à face avec lui-même, un bras de fer poétique mais sans merci", comme le dit très justement cet article des Inrocks.

Et puis, un morceau me touche particulièrement, parce que cet écorché de la vie, malgré les souffrances profondes, trouve encore la force de dire à l’autre et peut-être à lui-même, I’ll take care of you...
